Help - Making entries - Tips and tricks

The entries interface can be modified to imporove the ease of viewing and the speed of entering data.

Reducing clutter

If you have a lot of entries, the width of individual entries can become so small that it become hard to tell what they are, like the image below. Hiding entries and the "single day view" can solve this problem.

A cluttered calendar

Using single day view

Single day view expands a single day to take up the entire width of the screen, as shown below.

An example single day view

To use single day mode, click on the "view" menu and select "single day mode". Single day mode will be activated, with the current date displayed. To change dates, select the double arrow buttons near the view button to go forward or backward. Click on the "Home" buttom to return to the current day.

Hiding entries

Categoties of entries can be hidden to reduce the number of entries appearing on a given day. By deafult, all categories of entries are shown. To select a category to hide, click on the orange category name at the top of the page.

Hiding all activities

The category name will turn blue, and all entries of that category will disappear. To show these entries again, click the blue category name again. The entries will reappear.

Improving speed of entry

If you do many of the same activities each day, the cut, copy, and paste and the "copy entire day" features can relieve you from having to reenter the same activities multiple times.

Using cut, copy, and paste

Cut, copy, and paste work the same way in lifecentral as they do in any word processing program. To cut or copy an entry, right click on the entry and select the appropriate action.

The cut, copy, and paste menu

The entry will become highlighted with a black border to signify that it is being either cut or copied

To paste, right click an empty area of the calendar and select "Paste". The new entry will appear with the same length as the original entry. Use standard methods to resize and move the new entry.

Revealing an entry's value and other attributes

To reveal an entry's value, hover the mouse pointer over the entry for 2 seconds. A black tooltip that contains the entry's value will appear. For both valued and non-valued entries, the name of the entry and its duration (if variable-length) will be displayed. Hovering the mouse pointer can provide a quick reference when many entries are compressed into one time period.

Hovering the mouse over an entry reveals its length and other attributes.

Using copy entire day

Copy entire day does exactly as its name describes. The feature copies every entry from one day, including time and length, to another day. "Copy entire day" will not remove enties from the day to which items are copied; rather, it only adds the entries to the entries already in that day.

To use this feature, select "copy entire day" from the edit menu.

The 'copy entire day' option

A dialog box will appear asking for the "copy from" and "copy to" date. Enter the date by either typing the date in the text boxes or by clicking in the text boxes and using the calendar interface that appears. Select "OK" when complete.
